1 Thess. 5b-10, Resounding Faith

The Lord wants every Christian to have a resounding faith. This faith must first be received and it persists in faithfulness.

John 21:15-17, The Way Up Is The Way Down

Simon Peter had sinned grievously against the Lord. But because Jesus bore his sins on His body on the cross, there was forgiveness for him. Moreover, there was restoration waiting for him. Jesus restored this man. He could never be Rocky on his own by his own strength and will-power, but the Lord takes this man and brings him low before bringing him high. He humbles him before exalting him.

John 21:1-14, The Way of Grace

Jesus treated His disciples better than they deserved. He demonstrated to them His mercy, His provision, and His kindness. This is the Lord’s dealings with His elect. He will woo them and draw them to faith and repentance. This is indeed how the Lord deals with His elect throughout the ages. Those whom He has chosen He showers His kindness to lead them to repentance—though at times with the rod. May our hearts be warmed and led to surrender to the Lord in sweet yieldedness toward Him.

Ephesians 5:15-21, Redeem the Time

God has a purpose for our existence. Our time on earth is an opportunity to understand and carry out that will. In this study, we explore the will of God revealed in this text, book, and the whole of Scripture. May the Lord enable. us to not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is, and live as Spirit-filled men and women who speak like no one else, sing like no one else, give thanks like no one else, and relate to others like no one else. May we aim to spend much time with our Lord this year and grow in His likeness.

1 Thessalonians 1:1-5, The Saving Grace of God

The saving grace of God originates from His choice and it is manifested in His beloved church. It shows through their work of faith, labor of love, and steadfastness of hope.

Man is unique. God makes this abundantly clear in His creation of the first man. He made him in His likeness and as a ruler. Much of this has been marred due to the fall, but in Christ we gain the likeness to God in His communicable attributes and we will reign with Him forever. We were also specially created for the unique oneness of marriage.

Christ rose from the dead and is alive now! In His resurrection, we have great hope. Humans die because we have sinned against God: “the wages of sin is death.” But if we hold fast the gospel of Christ, we have confident assurance that our sins are paid for and that we will rise (like Christ) unto eternal life in glory. Praise the Lord!

God claims authorship over land creatures and He groups them into three simple categories of the cattle (domesticated), the creepers (low to the ground) and the beasts of the earth (wild). What purpose did these creatures serve? As the rest of the Bible reveals, God had a supreme purpose to illustrate His eternal redemption in Christ with these creatures.

On day five, God brings the seas and the skies to life as He introduces something truly brand new into His world: living creatures! We see the wonders of God in His handiwork as we dive into the waters and soar through the skies. How supremely creative and ingenious is our creator God!

God is the author of the seasons, the days and the years. He gave us the heavenly bodies as time-markers in the sky. In this sermon, we also take an excursus to address the question regarding what is sometimes falsely called “the second creation account” of Gen. 2.

God’s spoken words on day three are at odds with Darwinian evolution. God directly called for the kinds to come out of the ground. What’s more? God made the world fully mature with the appearance of age! As for day four, God illuminated the earth with the sun, moon and stars. With the two great lights, He made the canonical day cycle visible on the earth.

Where does human language come from? Who populated its vocabulary? God sets the pattern for human language in the naming of the first five features of the world and then He creates man with the full capacity for language. God also creates vegetation from the ground and each after its own kind for the nourishment of His creatures.

The sky, land and seas have all been created by our creator God. What we experience every day didn’t come into existence out of billions of years of random chance, but by the logical and intelligent design of the creator God. Genesis 1 continues to amaze us with truths that the God of the Bible is the creator of the universe and the earth and all that they contain.
