1 Timothy 2:6b-7, Look to the Cross

God’s gracious purpose and saving work intersected at the cross. There Christ, the one Mediator, gave Himself as a ransom for all, and by this singular act revealed the Father’s tender heart toward the lost. When we are tempted to question whether God cares for us in our weakness, grief, and struggles, we must look again to Calvary and rest in the sure proof of His love. This testimony of grace was meant for all the world to know. Therefore, God commissioned Paul as His chosen instrument to proclaim this gospel of grace to the nations. May we, too, be smooth and unobstructed channels of that same grace, making Christ known to all around us.

1 Timothy 2:1-4, The Heart of God

God desires all people to be saved. This fundamental truth about God our Savior had grown dim in the church at Ephesus, and Paul seeks to restore it by calling believers to pray for the lost. Here is where our hearts begin to align with the heart of the God of salvation. As beloved children, we are to share His concern, calling those who are not walking with the Lord to reconciliation with Him and restoration to His paths of righteousness. May God be magnified in us as we move in step with His love for the lost.

Scripture teaches us that every church is a witnessing community of believers who need to make disciples of all nations. Every church has a mission to reach the nations with the Gospel and to announce to every creature that Christ has made redemption through his blood and that by repentance and faith, each can receive the remission of sins and entrance into the kingdom of God.

2 Peter 1:3-7, Theology Proper: The Attributes ...

In redemption, we are graciously enabled to partake of the divine nature (v4). This does not mean we become equal to God, but that we begin to reflect His character through godly living. But which aspects of God’s character are we to imitate? In this final study in theology proper, we explore the difference between God’s communicable attributes—those He enables us to reflect—and His incommunicable attributes, which belong to Him alone as the infinite Creator. Peter reminds us that this transformation is not self-produced, but flows from a true and living knowledge of God through Jesus Christ.

John 19:28-30, Conclusive Cries from the Cross

This sermon is part 1 of a multipart series on our Lord’s cries from the cross that accomplished redemption for His people. In this first installment, the focus is on Jesus’ words “I thirst” and its significance. This cry fulfilled prophecy, signified impending death, demonstrated Jesus’’ humanity, and evidenced His substitutionary work for sinners. May the Lord’s love demonstrated on the cross woo us to trust and love Him more, for He is worthy!

Psalm 63:1-8, Satisfaction in the Wilderness

The source of our joy in the wilderness times of our lives is God Himself. If our eyes of faith can see Him, we can endure and outlast the dry and weary land. God shows us through the dire and depressing circumstances of David in which he found joy in the LORD, that we, too, can see God for who He is with the eyes of faith in the wasteland. His lovingkindness is better than life, and God Himself is our help. May we, therefore, learn to cling onto Him as He Himself grasps onto us. May we find our satisfaction in God in the wilderness.

John 19:17-27, The Beauty of the Cross

The cross was once an emblem of suffering and shame. But it has become to us a symbol of beauty because it was at the cross that Jesus revealed Himself to be our beautiful Savior. The cross is where we find our redemption, our worth, our identity, and our purpose. “But may it never be that I would boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” (Gal. 6:14).

Proverbs 3:5-12, Wisdom for Life

There are countless ways to get lost but only one right way. We need a guide who will keep our souls on the right track. That guide is the LORD and in this text of Scripture, He gives us wisdom in four critical areas of life to ensure that our paths are indeed straight and headed heavenward. The four areas are the word of God, sin, wealth, and suffering. May the LORD continually instill in us the wisdom for life to bear much fruit for Him.

John 18:38b-19:16, The Sinfulness of Sin and the Sufferings of Our Savior.

In the remainder of Jesus’ trial before Pilate, we encounter the sinfulness of sin of Pilate, Caiaphas, and the Jews. In all of these we see a glimpse of ourselves and our own sinful hearts. But in this text we also see the immense suffering of our Savior who has paid our ransom. There is hope for sinners because Christ Jesus suffered on our behalf. He has paid the price to call us out of sin and to transform our wicked hearts. May the Lord evermore lead and guide us to His pathway of righteousness for His name’s sake.

John 18:28-38a, The Kingdom of Truth

We have a Lord to serve, a church to build, and a world to reach. All who belong to the kingdom of Christ are to be about the Lord’s business. As Jesus stood before Pontius Pilate, He testified to the reality of His heavenly, redemptive, eschatological kingdom. May all recognize the voice of the Lord and heed it faithfully and follow Him diligently in the strait and narrow way to eternal life.
