1 Timothy 2:6b-7, Look to the Cross

God’s gracious purpose and saving work intersected at the cross. There Christ, the one Mediator, gave Himself as a ransom for all, and by this singular act revealed the Father’s tender heart toward the lost. When we are tempted to question whether God cares for us in our weakness, grief, and struggles, we must look again to Calvary and rest in the sure proof of His love. This testimony of grace was meant for all the world to know. Therefore, God commissioned Paul as His chosen instrument to proclaim this gospel of grace to the nations. May we, too, be smooth and unobstructed channels of that same grace, making Christ known to all around us.

1 Timothy 2:1-4, The Heart of God

God desires all people to be saved. This fundamental truth about God our Savior had grown dim in the church at Ephesus, and Paul seeks to restore it by calling believers to pray for the lost. Here is where our hearts begin to align with the heart of the God of salvation. As beloved children, we are to share His concern, calling those who are not walking with the Lord to reconciliation with Him and restoration to His paths of righteousness. May God be magnified in us as we move in step with His love for the lost.

Scripture teaches us that every church is a witnessing community of believers who need to make disciples of all nations. Every church has a mission to reach the nations with the Gospel and to announce to every creature that Christ has made redemption through his blood and that by repentance and faith, each can receive the remission of sins and entrance into the kingdom of God.

2 Peter 1:3-7, Theology Proper: The Attributes ...

In redemption, we are graciously enabled to partake of the divine nature (v4). This does not mean we become equal to God, but that we begin to reflect His character through godly living. But which aspects of God’s character are we to imitate? In this final study in theology proper, we explore the difference between God’s communicable attributes—those He enables us to reflect—and His incommunicable attributes, which belong to Him alone as the infinite Creator. Peter reminds us that this transformation is not self-produced, but flows from a true and living knowledge of God through Jesus Christ.

Gal. 5:16-25, The Cross and the Spirit

How can I change? This is a question that arises when we consider the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The apostle Paul points us to the twofold answer of the cross and the Spirit. He speaks not to condemn but to call us back to the basics of the Christian faith. We must trust in Christ who bore the cross in the place of sinners and heed His call to put to death the flesh and inviting the powerful influence of the Spirit of truth to dictate our thoughts and our affections. May the Lord tame the wolf of our flesh as the lion of the Spirit is enthroned in our minds and hearts.

John 21:15-17, The Way Up Is The Way Down

Simon Peter had sinned grievously against the Lord. But because Jesus bore his sins on His body on the cross, there was forgiveness for him. Moreover, there was restoration waiting for him. Jesus restored this man. He could never be Rocky on his own by his own strength and will-power, but the Lord takes this man and brings him low before bringing him high. He humbles him before exalting him.

John 21:1-14, The Way of Grace

Jesus treated His disciples better than they deserved. He demonstrated to them His mercy, His provision, and His kindness. This is the Lord’s dealings with His elect. He will woo them and draw them to faith and repentance. This is indeed how the Lord deals with His elect throughout the ages. Those whom He has chosen He showers His kindness to lead them to repentance—though at times with the rod. May our hearts be warmed and led to surrender to the Lord in sweet yieldedness toward Him.

Ephesians 5:15-21, Redeem the Time

God has a purpose for our existence. Our time on earth is an opportunity to understand and carry out that will. In this study, we explore the will of God revealed in this text, book, and the whole of Scripture. May the Lord enable. us to not be foolish but understand what the will of the Lord is, and live as Spirit-filled men and women who speak like no one else, sing like no one else, give thanks like no one else, and relate to others like no one else. May we aim to spend much time with our Lord this year and grow in His likeness.
