In our second meeting of Women of the Word, we began with a hymn (“Speak, O Lord” #368) and prayer. Then, we began our time of Scripture memorization [see handout with footnotes below] with the first of six antitheses between the Lord's surpassing righteousness for His disciples and the substandard "righteousness" of the Scribes and Pharisees. This first antithesis contrasts murder and anger (Matthew 5:21-26). Next, we memorized Matthew 5:27-32 regarding adultery vs. lust and no-fault vs. legitimate divorce. Finally, we ended with Matthew 5:33-37 about oath-taking vs. honesty. We closed with prayer.
